Today was the first day of our IS module, thankfully we weren’t late for our lesson the first time! We slept late the night before and we couldn’t wake up when our alarm sounded, all thanks to Mr Puah our guardian and temp father to wake us up!
During the lesson, we had an overview and detailed study on the history, culture, tourism and stories of Wuhan in Hubei province. The lesson lasted for 4 hours, many of us weren’t able to pull through the long period of lesson and they knocked out on the lecture table. But I really thank God that I knew quite a few things about China’s history, like the romance of the three kingdoms, Qu Yuan, the 4 beauty of China and many others. I was quite surprise that many historical events happened in Hubei and in Wuhan, like the famous strategist Zhuge Liang aka Kong Ming was from Hubei! And the famous poet Qu Yuan was also from Hubei. Some of the local festivals we celebrate in Singapore are also celebrated here in Wuhan, like the moon cake festival and dragon boat festival.
Today was a rest day for me, as I was really tired out by the 3 days before today. Thankfully I was able to get used to the environment here quite fast, thank God I didn’t have any stomach ache or anything of such! For my room today, we tried to cook dinner on our own dinner in our hostel! It was quite funny as my roommates has little experience in cooking, and I am the oldest among them as I am 21 years old this year, I guess I would need to take up the role of taking care of these little brothers in my room! We manage to cook a pot of vegetable soup, rice, and some boiled vegetables with tomatoes. It was really a delicious dinner we had, as it is not as oily, salty and big serving as what we can buy outside.
Really looking forward to the days to come whereby we can go visit the three gorges! And thank God we are the lucky ones that can catch the last view of the three gorges, as the IS teacher said that the project dam will be completing in 2009 and some parts of the three gorges will be submerged in water. What a pity… =(
